Almost done.

Not yet sure how this would be done the best way. Maybe there's some
getopt foo for this?

This is probably some work.

Thanks!

Will have to look through the common tools, but I'm sure at least one
of them is capable of generating salted hashes.

No more for 4.2 IMHO.

Yeah, I'd like to the see the refactoring for less code duplication
for the release after 4.2.

Steve seemed to follow an OpenBSD-like numbering scheme, i.e. version
numbers were always raised by 0.1 with some exceptions (there was no
4.0 release), but I'd prefer x.0 releases to be milestone releases, so
that if there is no milestone release after 4.9, the next would be
4.10 and if the next milestone is not directly after 4.9, it's called
5.0 anyway.

So the release which includes the code refactoring will be 5.0 anyway.

> @Axel, do you maybe want to branch this off?

Yes and no. If we start with it before the 4.2 release, I'd do
developement for 5.0 in a branch called 5, 5.0 or 5.x.

As soon as 4.2 is out, that branch will be merged into the master
branch. If there will be bugfix releases for 4.2, we'll branch them
off and call that branch 4, 4.2, 4.x or 4.2.x.

Saw that, too. :-)

Great.

Hmmm, I wonder if those changes would help Steve to start fixing
http://bugs.debian.org/573390?

I skimmed through them quickly and there are definitely a few which
I'll pull in without bigger testing. Just hadn't the time for doing it
yet. :-)

		Kind regards, Axel
