[xen-tools] question related to 30-fix-inittab hook

Hi!
The inittab hook, which changes 'tty[0-9]' to 'console', results in
having no job control in bash upon login (^C, ^Z and stuff don't
work), at least in my case:

Reverting to 'tty[0-9]' makes the problem vanish.
Is this a known issue?
What's the rationale of the inittab hook?
