O.K., I couldn't resist.
But to be clear, it's not sarge's debootstrap that I suspected to be
unable to build a proper etch chroot, but vice versa!
Anyway, with xen-tools from etch and debootstrap 0.3.3 on etch,
building a sarge vm, this problem doesn't exist.
In that case, there are multiple possibilities of the problem's source:
- different xen versions used.
- only newest xen-tools has the problem
- only debootstrap 0.3.3 when converted to rpm has the problem
I'll investigate that further when working further on my xen-tools and
FAI on fedora project.
The other direction, bootstrapping etch from sarge debootstrap, is
nearly 100% sure impossible. For fai i wrote a hack tu download and
unpack multiple versions of debootstrap into /var/lib , because in
general, deboostrap mostly only works really good with the
distribution it comes with, ans maybe with older ones.
