Yes, although the patch needs to be amended to wrap
runCustomisationHooks instead of installSystem, and $MOUNT-POINT should
of course be $MOUNT_POINT.  But once those changes are made, things do
work as expected and desired.

Although it still doesn't seem like that part should explode as it does,
this does seem like a fairly reasonable workaround.  Unless some package
/install script being installed tries to mess directly with stuff in
/proc/sys, it doesn't seem like there's any danger in doing so.
