I'd agree that it's a special case and is generally determined by the
specific needs of the xen-tools user in question. In my case, LDAP and
Kerberos and such are definitely a good solution, and I actually do
have plans to implement something like that here in the medium-term
future. In the short-term I just need a quicker, easier method for
creating domU local users so I can frontload the config at create time
and not have to come back and babysit the VM to complete the setup :)
I do like the idea of having extra VMs to perform wide-ranging network
services for the entire group of virtual machines, though, although I
expect that general concept is only going to become more common as
virtual networks grow in size and usage. My own setup here is still
very mixed between virtualized and physical hardware.
