/etc/xen-tols/skel/etc , you mean?  I did that and it worked great.

Well, I hope that xen-tools can get wide enough distribution that my use 
case is common, not rare. (-:

I might try that.  Do the Debian Xen kernels really have xennet compiled 
in?  That seems a strange choice, but I guess I can live with this local 
config for now.
